The Savrok

Privacy

The Savrok is one person's music, radio, stories and software. It has no advertising, no analytics, no tracking scripts and nothing from another company that watches what you do. This page says everything the site keeps, as plainly as we can.

The short version

What the server keeps, and for how long

When you…We keepFor
visit any pagethe server's log line: your address, the page, the time and your browser's name90 days, then deleted
do almost anything (to stop floods and abuse)a scrambled code of your address, the kind of action and the time2 days
sign the guestbookthe name you give, your note, a scrambled code of your address, your browser's name, the timeuntil the note is removed
join the mailing listyour email address, when and where you joined, a scrambled code of your addressuntil you unsubscribe; after that the address is kept marked "do not mail", so it is never mailed again
like a song or a page, or request a song on the radiothe song or page, a scrambled code of your address, the timekept with the song's numbers
listen to the radioa random code your browser makes up, held in memory to count listeners90 seconds after you stop; never written down
carve a line on the Gate (the Scratchings)your line and your actual addressuntil the line is removed; the address is kept so abuse can be banned
enter the Gate's hall of the few, or a high scorethe initials you choose, the score or count, and for the hall your actual addressuntil removed
type at the Gatewords nobody has typed before, with how often, and nothing about who typed themuntil the list is cleared
are an artist on the stationyour name, your password (stored only as a one-way hash), your authenticator's secret, your songs and their words, the terms version you accepted, and when you last signed inuntil your account is removed

The database is copied every night and the copies are kept for 14 days; uploaded songs and pictures are copied weekly and kept for 28 days. So something deleted from the site is gone from the backups within a month.

Cookies

The site sets a cookie only when you do something that needs one, and every cookie is the site's own, is unreadable by scripts, and is sent only over a secure connection.

CookieWhat it is forLasts
savrok_gateyou were given a key to come in early; it remembers that you used it180 days
savrok_artistyou are signed in as an artist12 hours, or until you sign out
savrok_sessionthe site's owner is signed in12 hours, or until sign-out

All three are strictly necessary for the thing you asked to do, which is why the site does not show a cookie banner. If that ever changes, the banner comes first.

What your browser keeps

These live in your browser's storage, on your device, and are never sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data for https://thesavrok.com removes all of them.

Other companies

Children

Some pages are made for families, like the coloring book's carnival. Those pages ask nothing of anybody and set no cookie. The site does not knowingly collect anything from children under 13; if you believe a child has signed the guestbook or joined the list, write to us and it will be removed.

Your choices

You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be removed — your guestbook note, your place on the mailing list, your marks on the Gate, your artist account. Write to admin-privacy@thesavrok.com. We answer within 30 days, and removal reaches the backups within a month as above. Because most of what we keep is a scrambled code rather than your address, tell us roughly when and from where, and we will find what we can.

Wherever you live — the EU and UK, California or anywhere else — the same rights apply here, because it is simpler to give everybody the strongest version.

Security

The site uses encrypted connections only, stores passwords as one-way hashes, and asks for a second code to sign in. If you find a problem with the site's security, please write to admin-privacy@thesavrok.com; our security.txt says the same.
